Beijing Uses Int'l Experience in Preparing 2008 Olympics

Jia Qinglin, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC),said Monday that Beijing must learn from international experience, especially that of former host cities, in its efforts to host the most successful Olympics in 2008.

Jia, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with Bob Hawke, former prime minister of Australia.

Jia thanked Hawke for his support for Beijing during its bid for the 2008 Olympics. He said international support was always welcome.

Hawke said he was glad to have played a role in China's successful bid. He said he would continue to promote friendship between the Chinese and Australian peoples.
